Intro: Mistakes - Inteachable sinful nature
Don't repeat the same mistake!
1. A Call to God is a call to LISTEN 'Have we listened?'
Listen to God not Look.
We do not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. (Deut 8:3)
Faith comes from listening.
'Down tools' - not take a break to idle, but to do the most impt thing- to wait on God.
Prority of parenthood - to teach our children to listen first, then speak.
2. One God
"There is none BUT you" No one like God.
Yahweh is true and unchanging.
Keeping God's law should be a delight - law keeping set in love - our wholehearted response to God who loved us firsr.
3. One Love
HOW? TO love the Lord our God with all our Heart, Soul and Strength (6:5)
WHERE? External reminders to internalize love for God - deeper into love with God.
Threats:
Prosperity - Beware of success and comfort.
'did not' mentioned 3 times. We did not, but God did it all.
Idolatry - Fear ---- our jealous God
Isralites were surrounded by idols. They were seduced to believing that neighbouring idols were more powerful than the invisible God.
Faith in simply beliving in God and his promises. Security in God alone.
Adversity - 'test' demand God to prove himself. But, who should prove? The Israelites.
Living a life of problems or living a life of faith in God.
Love for our children
Fidelity - being faithful to God - not merely passing on the laws 'to do list', but to have a genuine relationship with Jesus Christ.
Be covenant keeper not breaker
Challenge and prayer
Has God and his word made a difference in my life?
" Lord, please help me to wait on you to sit at your feet, to listen to you. That I may be changed from glory to glory into your likeness. Less of me and more of you in my life."
